American Sports University inks pact with the “Alliance” to Provide Academic Scholarships to African American and other Minority Students!

San Bernardino, CA (March 21, 2007) –The National Alliance of African American Athletes (The Alliance) partners with American Sports University. As a part of the partnership American Sports University will provide scholarships to African American and other Minority students screened by the Alliance. Students must complete the standard application process and submit a 500 plus word Personal Statement. The statement must include: Why they deserve a scholarship, background information, attendance at an orientation and be submitted by April 30, 2007.

As a part of the partnership The National Alliance of African American Athletes (The Alliance) will house its west coast offices on the American Sports University campus in San Bernardino. The Alliance will also hold its “SYNERGY’ Sports Conference at American Sports University the May  19th, 2007. ASU will also host a open house with campus tours and admissions processing on Saturday, March 31st, 2007. Sports celebrities will be on hand to sign autographs, FREE food, Give Aways, sports collectables will be for sale in the museum and entertainment will be provided at the open houses. Sports celebrities such as Super Bowl Champion Efren Herrera (UCLA All-American Soccer), Anthony Prior – 11 year pro football veteran (Raiders, NFL + CFL), Reggie Grant ,NY Jets, Tony Hudson, 10 yr MLB player, and more….will be at the March 31, Open House. About ASU:

ASU, the nation's only 4-year college dedicated to sports management will also offer certifications in various sports industry disciplines. American Sports University (ASU)) is a new, independent, private degree-granting institution in the discipline of Sports Education. The undergraduate degree program leads to the Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports Education. Course work is available for students who wish to concentrate in: Sports Management, Sports Coaching, Sports Marketing, Sports Health, Sports Training and Fitness, Sports & Special Education, and Sports Recreation Management at both the degree and certificate levels. Our programs emphasize theoretical and practical sports experiences in each of the emphasis areas. With nearly twenty-million dollars invested in the campus and faculty ASU is positioned to become a focal point for the education of sports professionals. The National Alliance of African American Athletes was founded in 1989.  The mission of The Alliance is to empower African American males through athletics, education and public programs. For the past sixteen years the “Alliance” has presented America’s most prestigious award for African American Male High School Scholar Athletes the “Watkins Award”. The 2007 Winner was Drew Davis of Denver, Colorado. Previous winners or finalist include Arizona Cardinals Robert Tate, Darnell Dinkins of the Baltimore Ravens, LaVarr Arrington of the Washington Redskins, Grant Irons and Ronald Curry of the Oakland Raiders, Deryck Toles of the Indianapolis Colts, Ted Ginn of Ohio State and Justin Blalock of Texas.
